JAMESTOWN, N.D. – No. 3-ranked Midland University made the journey up to North Dakota for their final regular-season road trip at the University of Jamestown this weekend. The Warriors were dominant on the ice as they held the No. 11-ranked Jimmies scoreless the entire weekend as they won 5-0 on Friday and 4-0 on Saturday.
FRIDAY: Midland 5, Jamestown 0
Ally Rakowski, who ranks near the top in the ACHA in goals this year, had herself a day on Friday. Her first goal of the game came just under five minutes into the game as she found the back of the net off a feed from Jenna Grosdidier. Then she added an unassisted score at the 9:43 mark, putting the Warriors up 2-0 at the first intermission.
Coming out of the locker room, Rakowski wasted no time at all in completing her hat trick. In the opening minute, she took the puck and pushed it past the goalie a mere 37 seconds into the second. That proved to be the only goal of the period, and Midland took a comfortable three-goal lead into the final break.
In the third period, two more goals found their way into the net for the Warriors. First, it was Brynn Tosh lighting the lamp on the power play at the 4:30 mark. Rylee Martin and Kamryn Hayhurst set up the goal and were credited with the assists. With time winding down, Darbi Poole netted her first goal as a Warrior with a score off an assist from Grosdidier.
Hannah Stone picked up seven saves in net as the Midland defense limited nearly all scoring chances brought on by Jamestown. The Warriors fired 32 shots on net with five making their way past the Jimmies’ goalie.
SATURDAY: Midland 4, Jamestown 0
Special teams were key to the Warriors coming away with the sweep in the finale. They were able to make the most of their power play chances, going a perfect 3-for-3 on the afternoon.
The first chance came in the opening period following a hooking penalty by UJ. Jenna Grosdidier netted what ended up being the game-winner of an assist from Kayla Flanigan at the 14:35 mark.
In the second period, Rylee Martin netted the power play goal after a holding call on the Jimmies. Callie Maguire and Brynn Tosh assisted on the goal at the 7:16 mark.
Maguire scored on the power play in the third period as the Warriors took advantage of their third special team opportunity. Grosdidier and Ally Rakowski assisted on the goal.
With just over seven minutes to go in the contest, Flanigan sealed the deal with an even-strength goal at the 12:25 mark. Rakowski and Kamryn Hayhurst earned the assists as the Warriors completed their second shutout of the weekend.
Kayla Bailey earned the shutout win in net picking up 15 saves on the day. Her counterpart had 35 saves while allowing four goals.
Midland (22-5-3) will return home for its final regular-season series next weekend when they host No. 2 Minot State (20-8-1). This will be the third series this season between the teams. The Warriors are 2-1-1 against the Beavers with their lone loss coming in overtime on the road.
