FREMONT, Neb. – It was a rematch of last year’s ACHA National Quarterfinals this weekend as Midland University faced the University of Massachusetts in a pair of games. The Warriors won the opener on Saturday, 3-0, and then played the Minutewomen to a 65-minute scoreless tie on Sunday. The results advance Midland’s record to 10-3-1 on the year while UMass moves to 2-6-1.

SATURDAY: Midland 3, Massachusetts 0

On Saturday, the Warriors took a one-goal lead early in the first period off a power-play goal from Kayla Flanigan with assists from Callie Maguire and Keagan Shearer. Things stayed that way through the second intermission, with Midland clinging to a 1-0 lead after 40 minutes.

After the final break, Jenna Grosdidier provided a little bit of breathing room as she scored on the power play less than a minute in. Ally Rakowski and Flanigan assisted on the goal.

Five minutes and change later, Flanigan picked up another assist on the day, feeding the puck to Rakowski for the even-strength score.

Midland outshot UMass 42-13, playing solid defensin in front of Hannah Stone. The Warriors’ goalie picked up 13 saves in the win.

SUNDAY: Midland 0, Massachusetts 0 (OT)

The final game of the weekend saw a physical game between the Warriors and Minutewomen. The two teams battled for 65 minutes on the sheet at Sidner Ice Arena.

Both teams had their chances with Midland going on the power-play seven times and UMass having a man advantage twice. In the overtime period, the Warriors outshot the Minutewomen 8-0. That was largely the result of a roughing penalty halfway through.

The defenses stood tough and the goalies were on point during the 0-0 draw. Hannah Stone had 22 saves in net for MU while the UMass netminder had 41 stops.

Up next for Midland (10-3-1) will be a challenging two-game series with Minot State (6-2-0). The Warriors will host the Beavers on Friday and Saturday with puck drops slated for 5:00 p.m. on November 11, and 6:30 p.m. on November 12 in Fremont.
