A former North Bend Elementary P.E. teacher has been charged after he allegedly encouraged students to punch their second-grade classmate.
Craig Schmeckpeper, 50, is charged with one count of committing intentional child abuse-no injury, a Class 3A felony.
On Feb. 17, deputies with the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office responded to North Bend Elementary School after an official reported Schmeckpeper put his hands on an 8-year-old boy and then encouraged other students to punch or hit the student.
Authorities said they spoke with at least three other witnesses who corroborated the child’s version of events.
Schmeckpeper ultimately resigned from his position. A warrant for his arrest was signed on Tuesday. A conviction would carry up to a three-year prison sentence.
