Medical marijuana signing event set for Saturday

Supporters are hosting more than 100 petition-signing events Saturday in more than 35 cities and towns for a pair of statutory initiatives to legalize medical cannabis.

Led by co-chairs Anna Wishart and Adam Morfeld of the Legislature, Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana (NMM) has built a grassroots movement to protect patients who need access to cannabis to alleviate serious health conditions.

One of the events is scheduled for Fremont. Mark Jensen will host it from 10:30 a.m. to at least 3 p.m. at Jensen Technology, 2225 N. Clarkson St.

Jensen said he will have sheets for Dodge and the surrounding counties.

NMM is asking Nebraska voters to sign two statutory medical cannabis initiatives that work together to protect qualified patients from criminal penalties and regulate private businesses that provide medical cannabis.

To make it on the ballot, supporters need to collect 87,000 verified voter signatures for each petition by July 7.

A list of signing locations is available at www.nebraskamarijuana.org/events.
