Judge denies Fortenberry’s request to move trial

A federal judge has denied a request from U.S. Rep. Jeff Fortenberry to move the congressman’s trial to Nebraska.
U.S. District Judge Stanley Blumenfeld said while there were factors that pointed toward a transfer, there were far more that weighed against moving it, including the location of possible witnesses, the expense of the parties and the location of counsel.
The trial is set for March 15 in Los Angeles.
Fortenberry faces three felony charges for allegedly lying to federal investigators about a 2016 foreign campaign contribution from a Nigerian billionaire.
Fortenberry’s attorneys made arguments on Friday seeking to move the trial from Los Angeles to Omaha.
