Dodge County Attorney Vaughan set to retire March 4

The Dodge County Board of Supervisors will receive County Attorney Paul Vaughan’s letter of resignation during Wednesday morning’s meeting.
Vaughan, who has spent about half of his 40 years of legal practice working for Dodge County, is retiring. His last day is scheduled for March 4.
Vaughan served as county attorney from 2001 to 2011. In May of 2011, he received a judicial appointment from then-Gov. Dave Heineman. He returned as a deputy in 2019 and was appointed county attorney in April of 2021 following the resignation of Oliver Glass.
In a letter to the supervisors, Vaughan said he believes the office has a departure plan with the deputies that will allow for a smooth transition.
“My Chief Deputy, Sara Sopinski, would be the most logical replacement for the balance of this term, in my opinion,” Vaughan said in the letter. “She has indicated to me her willingness to step in, and I believe she is incredibly capable of doing so.”
Vaughan said it was a great honor to serve Dodge County.
“I will be available to work through any issues with you to assure a smooth transition for the office,” he said in concluding the letter.
The meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. on the third floor of the courthouse.
