The Fremont Police Department posted this counterfeit bill on Facebook with the Chinese letters circled.

Fremont police are investigating how some counterfeit cash showed up in the area recently.

Lt. Ed Watts said a man discovered four $100 bills earlier this month. The only problem was there was Chinese lettering printed on the bill.

“A gentleman was working on a house – I don’t believe it was his own house – but he was working on a residence in the 2100 block of north Luther Road and he found the bills crumpled up in the front yard,” he said. “He brought them to us at the police department.”

The FPD has to investigate counterfeit bills occasionally, but Watts said the Chinese printing was unusual.

“It is something I haven’t seen,” he said.

The lieutenant said the public should notify authorities if they believe they have come across a counterfeit bill.

“They could take it to their bank or they could bring it here,” he said. “They can also call us and we can send an officer out to try to verify that it is counterfeit. A lot of times people come in contact with these bills getting change from a store or even taking money out of an ATM.”

Anyone with information about the counterfeit bills should contact FPD.

“We haven’t got any leads on it yet but if anyone has information, they can call the police department at 402-727-2677,” Watt said.
