Thanksgiving meal handout set for today

The Fremont Area United Way and the Food Security Taskforce has coordinated a Thanksgiving meal handout for 4:30 today at Christensen Field.

“We are inviting those who may go without this year to (show up) so that they know that the community cares and wants everyone to have access to a Thanksgiving meal,” said Christy Fiala, executive director of Fremont Area United Way. “Those who may need it should come. It is first-come, first-served.”

Fiala said there are 1,000 turkey dinners to hand out today.

“Individuals must be in the car so if you have family members, please have them come along with you,” she said. “We give a meal to each person we see in the vehicle. We’re just excited to bring this to the community.”

Fiala stressed that it takes a collaborative effort to make the event happen.

“I’m just so thankful for the committees of individuals in this community that work together to pull this off,” she said. “We see a lot of happy faces and a lot of thankful individuals. Last year we got so many people who said this was their Thanksgiving meal and they were just so thankful and appreciative.”
