Energy sources will be among the topics during tonight’s Fremont City Council meeting that is set for 7 at the Fremont Municipal Building.
Among the agenda items is a resolution authorizing Mayor Joey Spellerberg to sign a contract with Navajo Transitional Energy Company to purchase contract coal for 2022 and 2023.
“This is a resolution for our coal purchasing at the power plant,” Spellerberg said. “This is recommending the selection of Navajo for the cole purchasing.”
The Utilities and Infrastructure Board recommended Navajo’s contract at its Sept. 28 meeting. The agreement includes a fixed price for all coal supply and lower mercury content.
The council will also discuss a resolution authorizing staff to sign a contract for Propane Peak Shaving System Modification to Utility Energy Systems, LLC.
“We had this polar vortex last winter and our Peak Shaving Plant really came in handy when natural gas prices were increasing,” the mayor said. “We are making the necessary upgrades to this Peak Shaving Plant. It is a 50-year-old plant so this is basically a resolution authorizing staff to sign a contract to make necessary improvements.”
The council will also have the second reading for an ordinance to modify and continue Business Improvement District No. 1 in the downtown.
“They are going for another five-year renewal so this is up for second reading,” Spellerberg said. “The BID has to set a budget and that budget is also before the council. There are a lot of great things going on downtown and BID is a big part of that.”
The council will hold public hearings on the BID issue and also the first reading to change the Unified Development Code regarding floodway overlay and flood fringe overlay districts.
