The Fremont Tiger football team played defeated Omaha South, Friday night, 36-14.
The Archbishop Bergan Knights traveled to David City and defeated the Scouts, 49-6, Friday night. Bergan is 5-0 on the season and will host Aquinas Catholic, at Heedum Field, Friday night at 7pm.
The Fremont High softball team went 2-and-1 in the Lincoln Southeast Tournament, Saturday. Fremont beat Grand Island and Lincoln North Star and lost to Omaha Skutt. The Tigers are 23-8 on the season.
The Archbishop Bergan volleyball team went 3-and-1 in the Elkhorn Valley Tournament, in Tilden, Saturday. Bergan beat West Point-Beemer, Randolph and Elkhorn Valley, and lost to St. Paul. Bergan is 13-7 on the season.
Midland University made the trek up north this weekend for a conference road game at the University of Jamestown. The seven-hour bus ride home was a joyous one as the Warriors earned the 33-22 victory over the Jimmies. Midland improves their record to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) while Jamestown falls to 2-2 and 2-1 in conference play.
Dalton Tremayne had a stellar game as a runner, receiver, and returner. He tallied 351 yards in total. He had three kickoff returns for 63 yards, two punt returns for 68 yards, three receptions for 18 yards, and had a team-high of 202 yards on 14 rushes. He reached the endzone twice on his carries. First on a 20-yard run in the first quarter and then on a 92-yard rush in the fourth quarter.
Midland (3-2, 3-1 GPAC) will turn their attention to No. 3 Morningside (3-0, 3-0 GPAC). The focus all week in practice leading up to Saturday will be on ending their 16-game losing streak to the Mustangs. Kickoff on October 2 is set for 1:00 p.m. at Elwood Olsen Stadium in Sioux City, Iowa.
Hockey season is among us as Midland University’s men’s hockey team began their season this weekend with a split series with Iowa State University. The season didn’t start off on the right skate as the Warriors fell to the Cyclones in both games. On Friday in Ames, Iowa, Midland dropped a 5-1 contest. On Saturday in Fremont, the Cyclones shut out the Warriors by a score of 7-0.
Midland (0-2) will be back on home ice for a pair of Midwest College Hockey conference games next weekend when they host McKendree (0-1). The Warriors will take on the Bearcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 1 and at 7:45 p.m. on Saturday, October 2 inside Sidner Ice Arena in Fremont.
Midland University’s women’s hockey program began its 2021-2022 season on Friday and Saturday with a home series against Indiana Tech University. Midland was victorious in the opener, winning 3-1, and then the two Warrior sides drew in the second game, 1-1.
Next up, Midland (1-0-1) has its first road trip of the season as they travel to face Minot State University (0-0-0) on Friday, October 1st and 2nd. The games are set to begin at 4:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. at Maysa Arena in Minot, N.D.
Midland University’s men’s soccer team nearly forced extra time with Dordt University on Saturday, falling in the final seconds by a score of 3-2 at the Dordt Soccer Complex. Missed opportunities were the theme of the game for the Warriors as they had 23 shots compared to Defenders’ five, yet only netted a pair of goals.
Midland (4-4, 1-2 GPAC) will continue their long stretch of road games next week when they travel to take on Concordia (4-4-1, 2-1 GPAC). The teams will take the pitch at Bulldog Stadium on Wednesday, September 29 for an 8:00 p.m. start in Seward, Nebraska.
Midland University’s women’s soccer team traveled to face Dordt University on Saturday afternoon in Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) action and were victorious, winning 1-0. With the victory, Midland is now on a three-match win streak. Their overall and conference records are above .500, as they sit at 5-4 on the season and 2-1 in the GPAC.
Next up for Midland (5-4, 2-1 GPAC) is a road trip to Seward, Nebraska to play Concordia (4-2-2, 1-0-2). First kick is set for 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29 at Bulldog Stadium.
After dropping a pair of five-set matches, No. 1-ranked Midland University returned to their winning ways with a sweep of Mount Marty University on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors improved to 16-2 overall and 5-2 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) with set scores of 25-11, 25-15, and 25-23. Mount Marty remains winless in conference play at 0-7 and falls to 6-11 on the season.
Midland (16-2, 5-2 GPAC) will host another familiar foe next as Concordia (9-6, 4-3 GPAC) comes to Fremont next week. The two teams met back on September 8 in Seward. A match won in three sets by the Warriors. First serve in the rematch is set for 7:30 p.m. inside the Wikert Event Center on Wednesday, September 29.
Midland University’s cross country team continued its season on Friday afternoon as they competed in the Roy Griak Invitational. The women’s team took part in a 6k event against 26 other competing schools and the men’s team took part in an 8k event against 26 other competing schools.
As a team, Midland’s women placed 26th, finishing just behind Concordia University-St. Paul. Individually, the Warriors were led by Myia Johnson who placed 113th of 327 runners and finished with a time of 25:18.7.
The men’s team placed 24th on their side, finishing just behind the University of Minnesota-Crookston. Individually, Jon Mahoney led the Warriors with a 109th place finish and a time of 28:19.7.
Midland’s next competition will be Saturday, October 9 when they run at the Seminole Valley Stampede. The event, which is held at the same site as the NAIA Championships, is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
