The No. 6 Nebraska volleyball team dropped a road decision to No. 16 Stanford Tuesday night, falling 3-1 (19-25, 25-12, 21-25, 23-25) at Maples Pavilion. The Huskers are now 6-2 (0-0 Big Ten) on the season, while the Cardinal improves to 5-2 (0-0 Pac-12).
Kayla Caffey paced Nebraska with 12 kills on .429 hitting and added a match-high seven blocks. Freshmen Ally Batenhorst and Lindsay Krause joined her in double figures with 10 kills apiece. Batenhorst narrowly missed a double-double, adding nine digs and three blocks.
Nicklin Hames achieved her sixth straight double-double on 43 assists and 11 digs with two blocks. Lexi Rodriguez (16) and Kenzie Knuckles (14) each had double-figure dig nights.
Callie Schwarzenbach chipped in nine kills on .500 hitting.
The Cardinal hit .228 as a team to Nebraska’s .179. The two teams had an identical 10.5 blocks on the night.
Stanford was led by a match-high 21 kills from Caitie Baird, who had just two attack errors and hit .487. Sami Francis had 13 more kills, and Kendall Kipp had 10.
Nebraska returns home for its non-conference finale with No. 5 Louisville on Saturday, Sept. 18. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at the Devaney Center.
In high school boys tennis, Tuesday, Millard South defeated Fremont, 5-4.  Cameron Indra and #1 singles, Gage Ritthaler and #4 and Colby Robinson at #6 picked up wins, along with the #3 doubles team of Indra and Jacob Broeker.
The Fremont Tiger softball team split a doubleheader with Lincoln Pius X, at the Doris Bair Complex, Tuesday.  The Thunderbolts won game one, 3-2 in eight innings, while the Tigers took game two, 15-4 in five innings.  Fremont is 14-5 on the season.
The Fremont High volleyball team defeated Lincoln High, Tuesday night at Al Bahe Gymnasium, three games to none, 25-19, 25-23, 25-20.  Fremont is 13-4 on the season.
The Archbishop Bergan girls golf team defeated the Cedar Bluffs Wildcats in a dual at the Fremont Golf Club, Tuesday.  Bergan shot a 235 while Cedar Bluffs shot 300.  Jocelyn Kumm was the meet medalist, shooting a 51.  Addy Sweeny led Cedar Bluffs with a 72.
The Archbishop Bergan volleyball team defeated BRLD Tuesday night at Gary D. Schmidt Gymnasium, three sets to none, 25-19, 25-14, 25-15.  Kaitlyn Mlnarik had six kills and three blocks.  Bergan is 9-4 on the season.

The Nebraska softball team will hold the first of two fall intrasquad scrimmages this Thursday at 3:45 p.m. Nebraska will also scrimmage at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 23.
Nebraska’s fall roster consists of 18 players, including the return of seniors Olivia Ferrell and Cam Ybarra, who are back for a fifth season after the NCAA granted an extra year of eligibility for all players in the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They join seniors Peyton GlatterCourtney WallaceKarlee Seevers and Anni Raley.
Ferrell and Wallace will serve as captains for their teams for Thursday’s scrimmage and will have the opportunity to pick their teams.
Gates will open at 3:15 p.m. Concessions will not be open, but fans will be allowed to bring their own food and drink into Bowlin Stadium.
