The Fremont High girls golf team competed in the Kearney Invite at Awarii Dunes County Club in Axtell, Friday.  Fremont finished ninth out of 13 teams, shooting a 400.  Lincoln Southwest won the meet at 311.  The Tigers were led by Ansley Giesselmann who finished 25th with an 87.  Nicole Kolbas of Lincoln Pius X was the meet medalist, shooting a 69.
 
No. 3 Midland University capped off an excellent weekend at the Viterbo Volleyball Classic with a victory over the host, No. 9 Viterbo University on Saturday morning. The Warriors won in four sets (23-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-21) to remain unbeaten at 8-0.
On Friday, Midland defeated #1 ranked Missouri Baptist three sets to two and swept #21-ranked Grand View.
Midland (8-0) will begin their busy week with a home non-conference match against Peru State (2-3). The Warriors and Bobcats will take to the court inside the Wikert Event Center on Tuesday. First serve is set for 7:30 p.m.  The match will be broadcast on Big Dog Country, 98.9 FM and 1340 AM.
 
The Fremont High volleyball team took the crown at the Omaha North Invite, Saturday.  The Tigers beat Omaha Central two sets to one; swept Omaha North two to none and defeated Lincoln Northeast two to one.  Fremont is 4-0 on the season and will host Lincoln Northeast, tomorrow night.
The Fremont High softball team took first place at the Blair Invite, Saturday.  Fremont beat Blair, 7-0, lost to Cozad 8-7 and defeated Ashland-Greenwood, in the championship, 11-1.  Fremont is 8-1 on the season and will host Bellevue East, tomorrow night.
 
Midland University women’s soccer team was victorious once again this week as they defeated Graceland University 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.
Midland (2-0) will be at home for their next match as they prepare to face Baker (1-0), who ranks 17th nationally. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. at Heedum Field on Saturday, September 4.
 
Midland University’s men’s soccer continued their 2021 season Saturday afternoon as they traveled to face Graceland University. The Warriors led for over half the match, but couldn’t hold on, falling in the final minutes, 2-1.
This week’s match against Tabor (0-2) will be at home for the Warriors (1-1) on Heedum Field. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 4.
 
The Nebraska soccer team (3-1-0) dropped a heartbreaker to Oklahoma in double overtime, 1-0, at John Crain Field on Sunday afternoon. This marked Oklahoma’s first win over the Huskers since 2014, and Nebraska’s lone overtime game this season.
The Huskers return to action on Thursday when they host Omaha at Hibner Stadium at 7:05 p.m.
 
The No. 5 Nebraska volleyball team completed its weekend at the Husker Invitational Saturday afternoon, topping Kansas State 3-1 (25-17, 27-25, 11-25, 25-22) at the Devaney Center in front of 7,952 fans. The Huskers are now 2-0 on the season, while the Wildcats drop to 1-1.
Kayla Caffey equaled her career high with 13 kills on .632 hitting with just one attack error and added a pair of blocks. Madi Kubik matched her with 13 kills and two more blocks.
Friday night, Nebraska defeated Colgate, three sets to none.
Nebraska plays host to the Ameritas Players Challenge, Sept. 3-4, at the Devaney Center with a field that includes Georgia, Arizona State and Omaha. The Huskers open the tournament on Friday with Omaha at 11 a.m.
 
Juniors Ansley Atkinson and Jordy Rothwell stepped forward with three assists by Atkinson and two goals from Rothwell to lead the Creighton women’s soccer team to a 3-0 win at Oral Roberts on Sunday, Aug. 29.
The victory pushed the Bluejays to 3-1-0 on the season, while Oral Roberts fell to 2-1-1.
Creighton returns to the pitch in Morrison Stadium on Thursday, September 2nd as the Bluejays host South Dakota at 7:00 pm.
 
Omaha men’s soccer dropped its home opener to Tulsa Sunday night. The Hurricane netted the game winner in the 30th minute for the 1-0 win over the Mavericks.
With the loss, Omaha falls to 0-2-0 on the year.
The Mavericks will travel to Drake on Friday, Sept. 3. The match was originally schedule as a home match but has since changed. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Omaha Storm Chasers scored single runs in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings to tie the game before beating the Iowa Cubs, 4-3, in 11 innings on Sunday at Principal Park.
The Storm Chasers return to Werner Park on Tuesday to begin a seven-game, six-day series from Aug. 31-Sept. 5 against the Toledo Mud Hens (DET). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
 
David Vidal hit a two-run home run in the 2nd, Ben Wereski allowed just one run over five innings, and the Saltdogs split a four-game set with an 8-2 win over the Cleburne Railroaders at Haymarket Park on Sunday afternoon.
Lincoln now has a day off before a three-game series against Milwaukee opens on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
