Area residents will have the opportunity to help a do-it-yourself dog wash business bounce back from a devastating Father’s Day fire.
The Fur Shack, owned by Deb Newill and Tricia Homan, was open for less than three weeks when the fire destroyed it and other businesses in the Parkview Center shopping mall.
The Fur Shack plans to reopen and a fundraiser is scheduled for 7 p.m. to midnight on Friday at Tin Lizzy Tavern, located at 1682 E. 23rd St.
“I actually had contacted Tin Lizzy because I knew they had done outdoor events like this and fundraisers before,” Homan said. “They were on board from the start. They thought it was a wonderful idea and also a great way to end the summer.”
The band Happy Endings will perform from 8 to midnight during the event. The Omaha group primarily plays music from the 1980s and 90s. There will also be raffles, a silent auction and a food truck.
“Our silent auction starts at 7 and goes until 9,” Homan said. “We will also have different items to bid on with raffle tickets and split the pot.”
The silent auction will include various items donated by local businesses, including a 30-minute airplane ride for three people from the Fremont Municipal Airport, a golf package for four from the Fremont Golf Club, gift certificates from restaurants, free bowling packages, car detailing and remote car starts.
The owners are grateful for all the community support they have received since the June 20 fire.
“We had a tremendous amount of people reach out to us and want to do something,” Homan said. “We felt this was the best way to do that and get the community together. We are very appreciative of everyone reaching out and wanting us to return and get our shop up and going.”
The owners plan on moving into the former location of the hair salon, The Parlor, at the Parkview Center.
“The process on that is a little slower than we would’ve liked it to be,” Homan said. “We plan on going into the same plaza, a few doors down from where we were. The building has not been released yet for us to get in there and start renovating so we are still on hold with that.”
