Mr. & Mrs. Habitat honor goes to Papas

Katie and Dustin Papa are the 2021 Mr. and Mrs. Habitat.
The Fremont couple was crowned during the pageant Saturday night at the Fremont City Auditorium.
The other couples competing for Habitat for Humanity honor were: Trista and Aaron Beaudette; Laura and Jason Griffis; and Tasha and Bode Hill.
Joy McKay, Habitat executive director, said it was a fun time.
“We had a great event,” she said. “I think it was very successful. We had a great turnout of attendees. I think all four couples were amazing and all four are winners in our eyes because they all helped us bring in the donations.”
McKay said there was more than $48,000 raised from the event.
“That is before expenses so we’ll have our expenses for our meal and everything else, but that is still wonderful coming off a year of COVID-19 and not a lot of fundraisers,” she said. “We’re thrilled.”
Katie Papa is originally from Portland while Dustin is a Fremont native. He works with his father, Dean, at Papa Trucking that was founded by his grandfather.
“I think they were thrilled to win. They worked very hard to get to that point, but all four of the couples did. We do a lot with Papa Trucking. They demolish a lot of our homes and dig the holes for us when we’re ready to build. We work with them quite a bit so that was fun.”
