The Fremont Moo (15-3) took down the Hastings Sodbusters 10-4 Tuesday night, earning their 15th win of the season and ninth straight at Moller Field. The contest marked the tenth time the two teams have faced each other this year with Fremont leading the series 7-3.

The Sodbusters (6-12) opened up scoring in the first two innings, tallying one run each frame. In the bottom of the second, Peyton Leeper ignited the Moo bats with a solo home run, cutting Hastings’ lead in half. Dillon Sears led off the next inning with a double and advanced to third off a flyout by Auggie Rasmussen. Sears then reached home on a wild pitch to even the score at 2-2.

In the fourth inning, the Moo gained their first lead of the night in similar fashion as they continued to capitalize off the Sodbusters’ pitching woes. Leeper led off with a single to right field, stealing second and taking third and home off wild pitches during the next at-bat. Hastings then answered in the top of the fifth to tie the game 3-3.

In the bottom of the inning, the Moo bats exploded for four runs and never looked back the rest of the night. Darrien Morphew walked to begin the frame, followed by a Rasmussen single. Austin Callahan then blasted a double to left-center to score Morphew, and Taylor Howell added a two-RBI single to score Rasmussen and Callahan. To round out the scoring frenzy, Howell reached home off a Ryan Koski groundout, giving the Moo a 7-3 lead.

Hastings added another run in the seventh but was no match for Fremont’s booming bats. Sears led off with and Morphew reached on an infield single to begin the inning. Callahan hit his first home run of the season, bringing in three runs and extending the Moo’s lead by six.

The Moo utilized four pitchers in its 10-4 victory with Alex Wize starting on the bump, giving up seven hits, three runs and two walks while striking out two through five innings. Ozuna recorded the save for the Moo with a hitless two-inning effort. Callahan led the Moo offense, going 4-for-5 and collecting four RBIs. Leeper and Howell added two hits each to the team’s game total of twelve.

Fremont and Hastings will face off again Wednesday night at 7:05 at Historic Moller Field. Tune into Nate Rohr and Zach Berman’s broadcast on FremontMoo.com and Big Dog 98.9 FM and 1340 AM.
