The Valley Police Department has started a fundraiser for a K-9 program, including the cost of the dog, all the training and a K-9 vehicle.
The department has a new K-9, named Sonic. The 16-month-old Belgian Malinois is currently undergoing training with officer James Deemer.
From noon to 3 Saturday afternoon, Valley law enforcement officers will grill hamburgers and hot dogs at the City Park, 400 W. Vass St. Freewill donations will be accepted with proceeds going toward the K-9 unit.
The department has raised about $22,000 of its $40,000 goal for the program. The K-9 vehicle will include an area for Sonic with fans and safety features required for a K-9 officer.
Donations for the program can also be sent to the City of Valley; 203 N. Spruce St.; Valley, NE 68064. A GoFundMe page has also been established.
