Concert in the Park Series set for 14th season

A Fremont summer mainstay is set to return in June.

The 14th season of Mainstreet of Fremont’s Concert in the Park series is set to kickoff June 3 with High Heel. Bands are scheduled for all four Thursdays in the month.

COVID-19 limited the series to just one show last year, but Shannon Mullen, MainStreet of Fremont executive director, said people are eager for the program’s return.

“I think just getting back to some normalcy in 2021 is a great thing,” Mullen said. “But this is such a great event for the community and visitors in the area. We’re just so extremely excited to have the Concert in the Park series back.”

Mullen said the four-show lineup features some new and exciting bands as well as some familiar faces.

“High Heel has come for many years in a row,” she said. “They do a variety of some classic rock, some country — 70s, 80s and 90s music. They are our kickoff band for June 3.”

June 10 will feature The 70s Band that will focus on — no surprise — music of the 1970s.

“On June 17 we’re going to host Dillon Gaige,” Mullen said. “He is actually local and has many influences like Toby Keith, Zac Brown, Guns N’ Roses and Ozzy Osbourne.”

The final show, June 24, will feature Silver Moon.

“We are excited to have them back,” Mullen said. “They are a little bit of Country rock, Southern rock, and some bluesy music so we’re really excited to have them perform.”

Mullen believes there is variety in the lineup.

“We like to give everybody a little bit of a taste of something different and this year we decided these four were a great fit,” she said. “I know many of these bands are anxious to get back on the road, too.”

Each Thursday, children’s activities will begin at 6:30 p.m. The concerts are scheduled for 7.

“The City of Fremont owns a wonderful blow-up slide area,” Mullen said. “The Parks and Recreation Department comes out and there are a lot of great activities for the kiddos. We just love having the parks and rec department out there helping with the children’s activities.”

Sponsors include Edward Jones (Justin Jelkin), First State Bank & Trust, Methodist Fremont Health, State Farm Insurance (Gaylord Mussman), Big Dog 1340 and The Best Mix 105.5 FM, The Fremont & Dodge County Convention and Visitors Bureau and the City of Fremont.

“This is just a great opportunity for people to come out,” Mullen said. “They can still socially distance and we will have food and refreshments available for purchase from many of our local restaurants that come out. It is just so much fun to see it come back.”
