Uhings recognized for public health work

Nebraska’s public health directors were collectively honored with the Chancellor’s Distinguished Service Award during the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s commencement ceremony on Saturday.

The directors partnered with their communities to engage in providing expert COVID-19 public health guidance since March of 2020.

Terra Uhing, executive director of the Three Rivers Public Health Department in Fremont, and Gina Uhing, director for Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health in Wisner, were two of the 19 that were recognized.

In addition to their everyday duties, the health directors were recognized for working tirelessly to overcome obstacles, identifying key data to create robust dashboards, creating partnerships to establish testing sites, conducting contact tracing, reviewing business and event plans, distributing protective equipment and more.
