Local Sports Today with Rich Ray – May 7

FREMONT – Here’s a look at local sports today, plus a peek at what’s coming up this weekend:

High School Sports

In girls high school tennis, Fremont defeated Lincoln High, 5-4.
The Archbishop Bergan track and field teams hosted the Bergan Invite at Heedum Field, yesterday.  In boys action, Bergan was fourth with 85 points.  Aquinas Catholic was first with 120.  In girls action, Bergan was fifth with 26 points.  Bishop Neumann took first with 191.  Koa McIntyre won the boys 100 in 11.23.  McIntyre also won the 200 in 23.20.
In the B-6 District Baseball Tournament in Central City yesterday, Blair lost to Platteview, 13-10.

Midland U

The Midland women’s flag football team went 1-1, yesterday in Atlanta, Georgia.  Midland lost to Keiser, 19-0 and beat Kansas Wesleyan, 19-6.
With their backs to the wall, the No. 25 Midland University softball team won three elimination games on Thursday at Christensen Field to advance to the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Tournament Championship on Saturday. The Warriors topped Northwestern College in the first game of the day by a score of 5-4 and then swept the University of Jamestown 7-5 and 1-0 to advance to a best-for-three series with Concordia University.

Omaha Storm Chasers

In addition to celebrating his 27th birthday on Thursday, Storm Chaser Anderson Miller found himself celebrating a come-from-behind, walk-off, extra-innings win that he helped make possible.
His seventh-inning homer sparked Omaha’s offense in its 4-3 rally past St. Paul at Werner Park. The Storm Chasers, who trailed for six innings, won it in the 11th on a walk-off single by Kevin Merrell.
Omaha hosts St. Paul at 7:05, tonight, at Werner Park.
