FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University and Concordia University took to the courts at Fremont High School on Tuesday afternoon in women’s and men’s dual play with plenty of implications on the line. On the women’s side, Midland was looking to lock up the fourth-seed in the upcoming Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Tournament while Concordia was to looking get a share of the regular-season title. The men’s side was a winner-take-all for the conference title as both teams entered with an unbeaten record in the GPAC.
Concordia would edge Midland on the women’s side, winning 4-3. On the men’s side, the Warriors dominated the court winning 7-0.
Women: Concordia 4, Midland 3
Midland earned the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. Grace Felder and Madison Kersigo won 6-4 at No. 2s while Keyana Hastings and Sophie Mollring won 6-4 at No. 3s. It was the fourth straight win as a tandem for Hastings and Mollring on the season and was the first pairing of Felder and Kersigo this year.
In singles play, Felder and Hastings picked up the lone wins for Midland over the Bulldogs. Felder won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3s. It was her seventh win of the season. At No. 4s, Hastings came back to win 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3). Her singles record moves to 7-5 this year.
Men: Midland 7, Concordia 0
Midland dropped just one match all day as they were focused on sending their seniors out with a win and conference championship on Tuesday. In doubles, Miguel Abete and Jeremy Attrill won 6-2 at No. 1s. It was their sixth win as a combo this year. After dropping a narrow 7-6 matchup at No. 2s, Midland’s pairing of Nunzio Thiel and Salvador Almeida won No. 3s by a 6-4 score. They improve to a team-best 7-2 this season.
In singles play it was all Midland. The Warriors won each match in straight sets. At No. 1s, Abete picked up his 13th win of the year with a 6-0, 6-3 win. Thiel kept pace in the wins column with his 13th victory at No. 2s with a 6-1, 6-2 win. Tycho Janssen reached a baker’s dozen wins as well on the year too. He won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6s
In the middle, Luca Struffi reached double-digit wins with a 6-2, 6-2 won at No. 3s. Conrad Mascarenhas won 6-1, 7-5 at No. 4s. He improves to 8-4 on the year. At No. 5s, Almeida won 6-1, 6-1 to move his individual mark to 9-6.

Midland will host the 2021 GPAC Tennis Championships this upcoming weekend on Friday and Saturday. The men are the top-seed and with it get a bye to the semifinals at 2:00 p.m. The Midland women are the fourth seed and will begin play at 11:30 a.m. in the quarterfinals. They’ll face the College of Saint Mary who is the fifth seed.
