ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Midland University women’s tennis earned their second conference win on Friday as they defeated Northwestern College on the road in Orange City, Iowa. The Warriors swept the Raiders in doubles play and won five of six singles matches for the 6-1 victory.
Elyse Splichal and Grace Felder combined for the win at No. 1s, winning 6-2. They are now 4-1 on the season. Madison Kersigo and Lexie Glosser won their No. 2s match 6-1 to improve to 2-1 as a duo. In No. 3s, it was Keyana Hastings and Sophie Mollring picking up the 6-0 win. They are 2-4 on the year as a doubles group.
In singles play, Elyse Splichal dropped a tough 4-6, 4-6 match at No. 1s. The loss drops her to 3-7 on the season. In No. 2s, Madison Kersigo won 6-1, 6-3 for her first singles win of the year. At No. 3s, Grace Felder shutout her opponent 6-0, 6-0. The victory moves her to 3-7 on the season.
Keyana Hastings picked up her fourth singles win at No. 4s, winning 6-2, 6-1. Lexie Glosser also recorded her fourth win with a 6-0, 6-1 win. Hastings and Glosser lead the Warriors in singles wins.
Finally, Macee Thompson won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 6s. The win moves her to 3-5 on the season and snaps a five match losing streak.
Midland (4-6, 2-1 GPAC) will be back in action on Sunday when they travel to take on Hastings (1-8, 1-3 GPAC). The teams will begin play at 1:00 p.m. in Hastings, Nebraska.
