OMAHA, Neb. – Midland University and the College of Saint Mary co-hosted their spring women’s golf invitational this week with 18 holes played at Fremont Golf Club on Tuesday and 18 holes at Tiburon Golf Club on Wednesday. In addition to their own teams and golfers, the Warriors and Flames hosted teams and golfers from Doane University, Nebraska Wesleyan, and Peru State College.
After the first day of competition on their home course, Midland sat in third place with a team score of 418. Erin Baum turned in the best score on the team with a round of 97. She ranked 9th individually at the halfway point of the tournament.
Olivia Engel and Maria Jauken both shot round of 106 on a windy day, tying for 15th overall.
Day two saw Baum turn in another score of 97 to lead the way for the Warriors. She moved up two spots and finished 7th as an individual.
Jauken also saw her score improve. She dropped her score by 4 strokes, shooting a 102 over the second round to place 14th. The biggest drop in scores for Midland came from Renee Marcotte. After shooting a 109 in Fremont, she turned in a score of 101 in Omaha. She finished 15th.
As a team, the Warriors dropped to 4th with a combined score of 833. College of Saint Mary won the team title with a score of 752. Doane was second (786), Nebraska Wesleyan was third (826), and Peru State finished fifth (878).
Midland will turn their attention to the completion of the GPAC Championship coming up on April 23-24. After a difficult start during the first 36 holes in the fall, the Warriors will look to climb the leaderboard this spring with 36 holes set to be played at Bent Tree Golf Course in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
