FREMONT – Here’s a look at local sports today with Rich Ray:

Huskers

The Nebraska bowling teams sits 1-1 after the first day of the NCAA Regionals. Nebraska will continue play today against Medaille at 9:00 a.m. If NU wins this match, they will play Vanderbilt and will need to win twice to advance past regionals.

The Mavericks women’s tennis team dropped a close meeting with the visiting South Dakota Coyotes Wednesday afternoon. USD edged Omaha 4-3 to pick up the conference win. With the loss, the Mavericks fall to 8-12 on the year. The Mavericks will be back in action Sunday, April 11 at Western Illinois. The match is set to begin at 11 a.m.

Lincoln Saltdogs

The Lincoln Saltdogs have hired Brett Jodie as the club’s ninth manager. Jodie fills a vacancy left by James Frisbie after he was hired to join the Detroit Tigers big-league staff last month.
Jodie, 44, has spent 13 years with the Somerset Patriots of the Atlantic League, including seven years as the club’s manager from 2013-2019. Jodie won an Atlantic League championship in 2015 and made the playoffs in six of his seven seasons at the helm. In his managerial career, Jodie is 556-405 and has never had a losing season.
The Saltdogs will open the 2021 season on May 18, and the first game at Haymarket Park is scheduled for May 25.
