FPS making hires for 2021-22

While Fremont Public Schools enters the fourth quarter of this school year, officials have also been planning for 2021-22.

Kevin Eairleywine, the Fremont Public Schools executive director of human resources and elementary operations, said the hiring process began in December for the next school year.

“We actually started before Christmas with an early effort to hire some staff,” Eairleywine said. “Right now we have nine of our new-to-Fremont staff hired and about eight left. We are right in the thick of things. Our administrators are doing an awesome job and we’ve had some great applicants.”

One of the key hires will be at the elementary level.

“One of our most important positions that we have applications coming in for right now is for an elementary principal position at Washington,” Eairleywine said. “That is a tremendously important position. We have about a dozen applicants for that from throughout the state, right here in town, and even from outside of the state.

“It is a great job. People understand how tight-knit that little community of Washington Elementary is, and how great it is to work for Fremont Public Schools.”

Although the hiring process has had to proceed during the pandemic, Eairleywine said things have gone well.

“We’ve got about 17 certified staff that we plan on being new to Fremont, which is about half of what we typically would see at the beginning of a school year,” he said. “Our (normal) turnover rate for teachers is about eight percent, which is pretty low. Right now, it’s only about 4.5 percent. Hopefully, if things stay level, we’ll see a small class coming in, but it will be a very high-quality class.”
