Warriors Fall to (RV) Southwestern in Men’s and Women’s Play

WINFIELD, Kan. – Midland University hit the road for the first time this spring for a men’s and women’s dual with Southwestern College on Saturday morning. The Moundbuilders, who are receiving votes in both coaches’ polls, swept the Warriors on the women’s side 7-0 and won 6-1 on the men’s side.
WOMEN: Southwestern 7, Midland 0
The duo of Elyse Splichal and Madison Kersigo challenged the Builders in the battle of No. 2s, losing 6-4. Southwestern won No. 1s by a score of 6-1 and No. 3s by a 6-0 margin.
In singles play, Splichal had a strong showing but still fell 6-3, 6-3.
MEN: Southwestern 6, Midland 1
Midland started out well against the Builders, taking two of three doubles matches. Miguel Abete and Salvador teamed up at No. 1s, winning 6-2. In the match of No. 3s, Conrad Mascarenhas and Jeremy Attrill were victorious. The won going away, 6-1.
In singles play, Tycho Janssen was the long Warrior to force three games. In the match of No. 6s, he won the opening game 7-5 before falling 7-6 and 10-8.
Midland will be back in action this Wednesday as they are slated for a midweek dual with Sterling College. The duals are a make-up of matches originally scheduled for February 13. Later in the week Midland will host Grand View University in men’s and women’s action on Friday and then host Friends University in a women’s only match on Saturday.
