Husker Update: Wrestling, Basketball, Baseball – March 8

LINCOLN – This weekend, the Husker wrestling team claimed 3rd place at the Big Ten Championships, basketball fell to Northwestern by a single point, and baseball won three straight games.

Wrestling

The third-ranked Nebraska wrestling team finished third at the 2021 Big Ten Championships with 105.5 points for the program’s seventh top-five finish at the event and sixth in as many years. Nebraska was led by second-place finishes from Ridge Lovett (149), Taylor Venz (184) and Eric Schultz (197) and eight Huskers clinched automatic bids to the NCAA Championships.
Nebraska now sets its focus to the 2021 NCAA Championships, which will be held March 18-20 at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Mo.

Basketball

Kobe Webster had a season-high 23 points and five assists, as Nebraska rallied back from a 16-point deficit but Ryan Young’s putback with 2.7 seconds left lifted Northwestern to a 79-78 victory over Nebraska Sunday afternoon.
Webster scored 20 of his 23-points in the second half, as the Huskers erased a 39-30 halftime deficit and began their comeback. The senior guard hit a pair of 3-pointers in a 13-4 run in the first four minutes of the second half to get NU within 45-43.

 Baseball

After dropping the series opener on Friday night the Nebraska baseball team rebounded with three straight wins, including a 4-0 victory on Sunday, to take a series from the Purdue Boilermakers at Dell Diamond Stadium.
Following the 6-5 walk-off loss on Friday, Nebraska outscored Purdue 21-2 over the final three games of the series.
The Huskers will be back in action next weekend at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn., where they’ll play two games each against the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
