LINCOLN – Semifinals are done at Girls State basketball in Lincoln. Here’s where our local teams stand today:
The Archbishop Bergan girls basketball team competed in the D1 state tournament semifinals at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln yesterday versus the Pleasanton Bulldogs. The Knights would fall to Pleasanton 61-52. After trailing by one at the half, the Knights would fall behind by 21 at the end of the third quarter break.
The Knights put together a valiant effort to cut the lead to five with 2:30 to play, but the Bulldogs would hold on to defeat the Knights. Kaci Pierce led four Bulldogs in double figure scoring with 18 points. Katy Lindner added 17 while Belle Paitz and Chelsea Fischer added 10 each. Bergan was led by Kaitlyn Mlnarik with 21 points and Lauren Baker with 17. Pleasanton is 27-1 and will play Weeping Water in the D1 title game, Saturday morning at 9:00.
Bergan is 16-10 and will play Hartington Cedar Catholic today at 11:30, in the consolation game at Lincoln Northeast. The game will be broadcast on Mix 105.5, FM.
Also today, the North Bend Central Tigers will take on Winnebago at 9am in the C1 semifinals at Pinnacle Bank Arena. That game will also be broadcast on Mix 105.5, FM.
Later tonight, the Fremont Tigers will play the Millard South Patriots in the Class A semifinals at Pinnacle Bank Arena. The game will be broadcast on Big Dog Country, 98.9 FM and 1340 AM.
