Bergan qualifies 5 for state speech

Five Fremont Bergan students have qualified for the Nebraska School Activities Association State Speech Championships on March 19 in Kearney. 
 
The Knights finished fourth in the team standings of the C2-2 district tournament in Hartington. Hartington-Newcastle captured the district title while Howells-Dodge was the runner-up. West Point Guardian Angels Central Catholic placed third. 
 
Junior Grant Gibson led the Knights by capturing a pair of championships. He was first in humorous prose and informative speaking. Gibson also qualified for the National Speech and Debate Association’s national tournament for the second year in a row. 
 
Sophomore Hayden Cone also earned a district title with a top finish in poetry. Senior Angelee Rump and sophomore Grace Kerkaert finished second in duet acting. Sophomore Caitlin Pitt finished third in extemporaneous speaking.
