FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University’s tennis teams took on a pair of ranked foes on Friday as they faced the No. 14-ranked men and No. 7-ranked women of William Woods University. In the men’s dual the Owls won 6-1 and in the women’s they won 7-0.
MEN: William Woods 6, Midland 1
The Warriors took the matchup at No. 3 doubles as Conrad Mascarenhas and Jeremy Attrill bested Zach Frisbie and Robert Schorr (7-5). In singles action, the Warriors’ lone point of the day came from Miguel Abete in No. 1s action. He defeated Patrick Shelepov in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
WOMEN: William Woods 7, Midland 0
Midland fought an uphill battle against William Woods but failed to register a win in doubles or singles action. Elyse Splichal was the lone lady for the Warriors to take her opponent to three sets in singles play. In the match-up of No. 3s, she took the opening set over Marta Calvo Larraz before dropping the next two (6-2, 2-6, 6-10).
