Clyde (Gern) Wilkie joined his heavenly father suddenly and unexpectedly on Sunday October 18, 2020 at the age of 93 in his home in Fremont, Nebraska.
He was born on August 28, 1927 in Afton, Iowa to Helen (O’Riley) and Clyde Wilkie and attended Corning Iowa High School before serving in the Army Air Force near the end of World War 2 in Okinawa, Japan from 1945 until being honorably discharged with decorations in 1947.
Following his military service Clyde worked briefly for the local phone company in Corning, Iowa then moved from Iowa to Fremont, NE to begin work at the Hormel Company in 1952 for a 30 year career before working 4 years at 3M Valley, Nebraska and 10 additional years for the City of Fremont Parks and Recreation Department until completely retiring at age 84.
He married Janice Marie LeGrande on November 6, 1954 at the First United Methodist Church of Fremont, Nebraska. They had two sons, Randy and Ron.
Clyde enjoyed camping, boating, woodworking and auto mechanics and was an assistant Boy Scout Leader in his spare time and a member of the First United Methodist Church, VFW, Fremont Boat Club, Odd Fellows Lodge and Eagles Club.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Wilkie, and his son, Ron Wilkie, special friend Beth Jewell, granddaughters, Alyssa and Riane, sister, Verna Retland, and many beloved family members.
Clyde is reunited in heaven with his eldest son Randy, father Clyde, mother Helen, sister, Wanda, and several beloved family members.
Services have been scheduled 10:30 am, on Thursday October 22, 2020, at the First United Methodist Church of Fremont, NE. Visitation is from 9:30 am to 10:30, Thursday at the church. Burial with military honors will be at Maple Grove Cemetery near Cedar Bluff, Nebraska.
