Local Sports Today with Rich Ray – October 7

FREMONT – Here’s the latest in local sports from Rich Ray:
Last night in high school volleyball, the Fremont Tigers hosted their 10th annual Dig Pink Event, raising funds for Cancer Prevention and Awareness, while playing Lincoln Pius X, at Al Bahe Gymnasium.  The Thunderbolts defeated the Tigers, three sets to none, 25-14, 25-11, 25-14.  Kylen Sealock led Pius with nine kills and three ace serves.  Fremont got four kills each from Elise Estudillo, Ellah Hofer and Grace Williams.  Pius is 17-3 on the season and plays in a triangular, tomorrow, at Omaha Marian along with Papillion LaVista.  Fremont is 11-9 and plays at Lincoln Southwest, next Tuesday.
The Bergan Cross-Country teams ran at the Centennial Conference Meet at Pioneers Park, in Lincoln, yesterday.  The Lady Knights had three runners compete.  Sophie O’Neill was 14th at 23:44.36.  Jadin Ostrand was 22nd at 25:29.66.  Emma Larson was 28th at 26:16.94.  Lincoln Christian won the meet with 23 points. Alaina Vargas of Hastings St. Cecilia took first in 20:33.98.  In boys action, Bergan finished tenth with 171 points.  Sam Sleister was the top Knight finisher, in 39th at 21:29.50.  Carter Demuth was 41st, Nathan Fuchs was 42nd, Brenton Pitt was 49th, Damion Flores was 51st and Jobe Sullivan was 56th.  Columbus Scotus won the meet with 31 points.  Payton Davis of Aquinas finished first in 17:46.36.
In golf, the Bergan Knights had three golfers compete in the C-2 District Meet at Oakland Golf Course, yesterday.  Jocelyn Kumm shot a 111, Olivia Fedde shot a 125 and Olivia Prauner shot a 129.  Boone Central won the meet with a 395.  Omaha Brownell-Talbot was second at 416 and Columbus Scotus was third at 423.  Abby Broderson of Boone Central was the meet medalist with a 77.
Day two of the GPAC Women’s Golf Championships concluded yesterday at Dakota Dunes Country Club, in Dakota Dunes, South Dakota.  At the halfway point of the championship, Midland is 12th at 843.  Olivia Engel is the top Warrior, tied for 39th at 198.  Morningside is leading the championship with a 629.  The Mustangs Maria Zorrilla is the leader at 154.
