Women Finish as Runners-Up at Home Invitational; Men Place Third

OMAHA, Neb. – Bowling season is upon us as Midland University hosted their annual invitational over the weekend at Mockingbird Lanes in Omaha, Nebraska. The Warriors, along with teams from four other schools, were anxious to get on back on the lanes after their seasons a year ago were cut short due to pandemic.
The two-day tournament featured men’s and women’s teams from Midland, Hastings College, and William Penn University as well as the women’s team from Columbia College and the men’s team from Peru State College.
Competition opened on Saturday morning with six games of individual play followed by six blocks of Baker games on Sunday. The top two teams after that competed for individual titles in head-to-head Baker games in varsity and junior varsity divisions on the women’s and men’s sides.
Hannah Triske, Kelly Ford, and Chloe Herman all finished in the top five on the women’s side individually. Triske had an average of 189.7 for second place while Ford had an average of 183.8 for fourth and Herman bowled a 181.3 for fifth.
On the men’s side the Warriors had the top two bowlers of the invite. Blake Massey had an average of 202.2 for second place while Tyler Hunter led all bowlers with a 213.8 average.
In the team standing midway through Midland was atop the women’s standing with a score of 5281 while the men were in third with a 5566 score after individual games.
In Baker play, the women fell to second overall while the men fell to third.
In the championship, best-of-five, match, the women were bested by Williams Penn in three games. On the men’s side, William Penn also came out victorious, beating Hastings in five. Junior Varsity champions were the Midland Navy team on the women’s side and Hastings JV on the men’s.
The Warriors will be back in action in three weeks when they travel to Oskaloosa, Iowa for the William Penn Tournament. Bowling in the two-day event begins on Saturday, October 17.
