Warriors Finish Second Overall at Prairie Classic Conference

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. – Midland University’s Shotgun team competed in the Prairie Classic Conference shoot this past weekend and took on Concordia University, Connors State College, Eastern Oklahoma State College, Hastings College, Nebraska College of Tech Agriculture, Northwest Kansas Technical College, and the University of Jamestown among others in North Platte, Nebraska.
The Warriors were dominant in both their individual and team performances and found themselves at the top of almost every leaderboard at the end of the tournament. Overall, the Warriors finished first in men’s Double Skeet, men’s Double Trap, men’s American Trap, and the Doubles Trap team event.
Sophomore Jace Garza placed first in men’s Double Skeet with a score of 98, and in similar fashion, freshman Shane Biser placed first place in the men’s Double Trap shooting with a score of 98. Then, sophomore Callahan Healy dazzled with a perfect score of 100 in the men’s American Trap event.
As a team the Warriors shined in the Double Trap team event with Shane Biser (98), Jace Garza (95), junior Dino Manuel (93), junior Charlie Wachtel (90), and freshman Adin Doll (89) all competing. The Warriors won the event with a score of 465.
The Warriors were rewarded for the stellar outing with all-conference designations for Shane Biser, Jace Garza, Dino Manuel, junior Dalton Wilcox, Callahan Healy, and Charlie Wachtel.
Garza earned the Highest Overall Award (HOA) for the men’s side with his 474/500 performance. Biser was named to the freshman all-conference team, along with earning the freshman male HOA for his 445/500 performance.
Head coach Jake McThenia was pleased with his team’s showing, but also recognized that it is early in the season and the Warriors can continue to get better, “We have individuals from freshmen to seniors stepping up and contributing to the effort. We have room to improve in some events, but that will come with time.”
The Warriors next event will be the Bulldog Invitational, a two-day competition in Brainard, Nebraska on October 3-4.
