Midland University Announces Changes to COVID-19 Protocols

FREMONT – Midland University announced changes to its COVID-19 protocols Monday morning due to an uptick in COVID-19 cases on campus.

Midland said the changes are being made out of an abundance of caution as it works to keep students safe, whether they live on or off-campus.
“We have recently seen a slight rise in positive COVID-19 cases on campus. While we don’t view these numbers as unusually high, it has raised enough concern for us that we are implementing several changes to help us manage the COVID-19 situation,” Midland said in a news release.
As of Friday, September 25, Midland was reporting 30 current positive cases of COVID-19 on campus.
Midland said, “We have been diligently working to keep our students, faculty, and staff safe and productive throughout this return, but we are aware there have been challenges along the way.”
This has led to the following changes being made to the COVID-19 protocols at Midland University:
Residence Hall Room Limitations

  • Midland will be limiting the number of students in residence hall rooms.
  • Total occupants in a residence hall room will not exceed the number of students living in that room.
  • For example, in a residence hall where two students live in a room, the total number of students in that room should not exceed two.

Travel Protocols

  • Travel protocols for athletic teams are going to be updated.
  • Midland is looking at ways to ensure greater social distancing for its athletes when they travel.
  • This could mean more modes of transportation to each event.
  • Other potential changes could involve reducing overnight travel when possible, reducing travel roster sizes when possible, and limit to essential travel (conference games, conference or national qualifying events, national tournaments).

Increased Testing

  • Midland University’s Student Health is now partnering with Test Nebraska to offer increased testing and make it available on campus, making the process more convenient for students.

Midland closed its release stating that it will continue to take every necessary action to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and keep its campus safe.
