Lady Warriors Place Fourth at Dean White Invite; Men Continue to Show Progress

CRETE, NEB. – On Saturday, the Midland University cross country teams faced a tough course with temperatures in the upper 70s and mild winds as they competed at the Dean White Invitational. The meet, hosted by Doane University, featured a lot of hills and turns.
For the women’s team, Vivian Sanchez-Gutierrez led the way by finishing 3rd overall with a time of 19:57.02. Myia Johnson (21:13.96) and Madilynn Edwards (21:36.29) finished 13th and 17th respectively. To round the top five runners for the team, Emma Christianson (23:52.42) finished 46th and Erin Kahnk (25:03.48) finished 61st.
“Vivian had a fantastic race and helped us achieve a fourth place finish out of eight,” said head coach Daniel Gerber. “We also had strong races from Myia and Madilynn too.”
Christian McCafferty (28:43.55) was the top finisher for the men’s team. Closely behind McCafferty was Ross McMahon (29:48.26) and Daniel Olson (29:51.66).
“We rested our top two this weekend to help prep them and keep them fresh for the remainder of the season,” Coach Gerber said. “We did not earn a score as a team, only running four guys.”
The Warriors will have two weeks to prepare for the Seminole Valley Stampede which is the same course for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Championships in the spring. The race is hosted by Mount Mercy and will take place on October 10 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
