Local Sports Today with Rich Ray – September 22

FREMONT – Here’s your daily look at local sports from Rich Ray:
In high school softball last night at Chaplain Field, Fremont won both games in a doubleheader over Columbus, 12-1 in four innings, and 16-5 in five innings.  The Tigers hit eight homeruns between the two games.  Fremont is 11-11 on the season while Columbus is 4-11.  Columbus will play Lincoln Southeast, Thursday, while Fremont hosts Grand Island in a doubleheader, at 5:00 tonight, at Chaplain Field.
The Fremont Tiger boys tennis team finished ninth in the 20-team Monarch Invite, hosted by Papillion LaVista High School at the Koch Tennis Center, yesterday.  Alex Bigsby was second at #1 singles and Shane Miller was sixth at #2 singles.
In other local sports, aspiring football players will have the opportunity to try out for the Omaha Beef next month. The tryout event is October 17th at Papillion Landing at 2pm.  The Beef will begin the 2021 season on March 20th, versus the Oklahoma Flying Aces.  For more information, go to www.beeffootball.com.
