FREMONT – The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office is announcing their annual fall special enforcement period to be centered around the Labor Day holiday.
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office applied for and received a grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety for overtime enforcement activities. These activities will be held in conjunction with the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” high-visibility enforcement campaign.
Drunk driving claims the lives of over 10,000 people every year. In Nebraska alone, alcohol plays a role in about a third of Nebraska’s fatal crashes. Nebraska experienced 71 alcohol-related traffic fatalities in 2017, 243 individuals suffered disabling injuries from drunk driving accidents, and another 395 suffered visible but non-disabling injuries.
The extra enforcement will begin on August 21, 2020 and run through September 7, 2020. Since a majority of drunk driving incidents are centered around holidays, Dodge County motorists can expect to see extra patrol cars, officers, and saturation patrols throughout the Labor Day weekend, September 4-7.
