Passersby Pull Man From Home on Fire

FREMONT – A man was saved from a fire in his home yesterday morning by passersby who noticed smoke coming from the structure.
On Tuesday morning around 11AM, a home in the 1800 block of north Union street caught fire. The fire was started when a lit and unattended cigarette caught an item of clothing on fire. The blaze spread, and the occupant of the home found himself trapped in a bathroom.
Passersby noticed the smoke coming from the home and called 9-1-1. Then, seeing that an individual was trapped inside, they pulled the man to safety through the bathroom window. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
Fremont Fire Department was able to extinguish the blaze within about ten minutes. The home suffered an estimated $25,000 to $30,000 in damage, mostly from smoke.
