Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana Hope to Relaunch Signature Gathering Campaign

LINCOLN – In recent weeks, while public health directives limiting social gatherings have remained in place, Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana and its signature gathering team have been unable to continue their work in hopes of adding a medical marijuana question to the 2020 ballot.
“Our campaign team has explored other ways to continue our efforts, including electronic signature gathering,” said the organization. Unfortunately, existing state laws prohibit virtual signature collection and could impose serious criminal penalties on petition collectors for violations. With such a high profile initiative, “We simply cannot ask anyone, especially volunteers, to take such risks,” said NMM.
The organization is planning to relaunch their signature campaign as soon as possible, with those in the field taking safety precautions to uphold social distancing measures and protect public health.
“We remain confident that, working together, we will be successful in qualifying the medical marijuana initiative for the ballot if a modified form of traditional signature gathering can safely resume within the next two to three weeks,” said the group.
“For many patients and families, uncertainty about the status of our medical marijuana initiative creates additional anxiety in an already-stressful time. We know what is at stake and remain 100% committed to making this effort successful.”
