Wahoo’s Season Ends; Yutan Still Alive After Stunning Double OT Finish

LINCOLN – The Yutan Chieftains will head into the second round at State Basketball after a stunning finish to their first round game. The Wahoo Warriors have ended their season, 23-3.
The Wahoo team couldn’t get momentum against Mount Michael yesterday, going scoreless in the second quarter and struggling to catch up in the second half. Mount Michael, who defeated the Warriors 76-50, will move on to play Skutt Catholic today at 2PM.
The Yutan Chieftans rallied from behind to tie the game in the final 0.6 seconds of regulation play with an extraordinary pass from down court to a waiting player who immediately sunk the basket. That drove the game into double overtime, where the teams broke away, tied, broke away and tied again. Finally, Yutan hit their stride in the second OT period and defeated the Ponca Indians, 63-56.
Yutan goes on tonight to play Grand Island Central Catholic at 7PM in the Devaney Center. GICC and Yutan both head into the matchup 19-20 on the season. Rich Ray will once again broadcast all the action, with our pregame to start at 6:45PM on Mix 105.5.
The winner of that game will go on to play in the C2 Championship at the Pinnacle Bank Arena on Saturday at 8:30PM. Should Yutan be defeated by GICC, they’ll head into the 3rd Place game, Saturday at 1PM at Lincoln Northeast. Rich Ray will stay with Yutan for either the Championship or consolation game, either of which will be broadcast on Mix 105.5.
