October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
It is a time to raise awareness about domestic violence, honor those whose lives have been impacted, remember those we have lost, and remind survivors throughout our communities that help and support are available.
The Bridge serves individuals and families impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and dating violence throughout Dodge, Burt, Cuming, Saunders and Washington Counties. This October, the organization invites the community to join in raising awareness and standing alongside survivors.
A Chamber Coffee is scheduled for 9 to 10 a.m. Oct. 9 at The Bridge. Community members are invited to stop by, meet The Bridge team, learn more about the services provided and enjoy Nye Square’s famous cinnamon rolls.
Everyone is encouraged to wear purple Oct. 15 in recognition of National Purple Thursday. Purple is the color associated with domestic violence awareness, and wearing it is a simple but visible way to show support for survivors.
At 6:30 p.m. Oct. 15, The Bridge will host the annual Night of Hope at StoneBridge Church, 1041 N. Nye Avenue in Fremont. Night of Hope is an opportunity for the community to come together to honor survivors, remember those whose lives have been lost to domestic violence, and recognize the strength and courage of those affected by abuse.
This year’s Night of Hope will also include a survivor sharing her story. Hearing directly from a survivor
is a powerful reminder that behind every statistic is a real person, and that there can be hope, healing
and a life beyond abuse.
Domestic violence is not something that happens only somewhere else. It affects people of every age
and background, including individuals and families right here in our five-county service area. Behind every number is a neighbor, coworker, friend or family member who deserves to be safe, supported
and heard.
If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking or dating violence, an advocate from The Bridge is available 24 hours a day through the Crisis Line at 1-888-721-4340.
All services provided by The Bridge are free, confidential and available in English and Spanish.
