Raymond “Ray” D. Boettcher, 77, of Fremont passed away at his home on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.

Ray was born on October 16, 1948, in Madison, South Dakota, to Leeland and Mosella (Cross) Boettcher. On August 16, 1968, he married Sharon Bornitz in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Over the years, Ray and his family made their home in Schuyler, Nebraska; Marshall, Minnesota; Crofton, Nebraska; and Yankton, South Dakota, before settling in Fremont in 1992.

Ray enjoyed watching classic Western movies and reading about the history of cowboys and Native Americans. He also loved listening to classic rock and country music. He will be remembered for his love of the American West, his devotion to his family, and the many friendships he made throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leeland and Mosella Boettcher; his wife, Sharon Boettcher; his sisters, Deanne Schmidt and Janet Boettcher; his brother, Darrell Boettcher; and his grandson, Matthew Rains.

Ray is survived by his significant other, Linda Moore; his daughters, Nikki (Mike) Rains and Jennifer (Jon) Wiseman; his son, Sean Boettcher; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and dear friends.

A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, July 3, 2026, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Chaplain Scott Jensen will officiate. A memorial visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Moser’s.
