Authorities have identified the person who died Monday morning in a house fire north of Fremont.

An occupant of the residence, Valerie Whitney, 66, perished in the fire. The death was deemed accidental due to smoke inhalation related to the fire.

The State Fire Marshal has completed an on-site investigation and concluded the fire resulted from an electrical event determined to be accidental in nature. The dwelling is considered a total loss at $118,000.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and loved ones of the victim during this difficult time,” Dodge County Sheriff Dustin Weitzel said. “We ask that the family’s privacy be respected as they grieve.”
