First State Bank Seniors win Omaha South Tournament

It was a good baseball weekend for the First State Bank Seniors.  They won the Omaha South Tournament on Sunday, defeating Blair 7-3, in the Championship at John Stella Field.
Game One of the tourney took place on Saturday.  The FSB Seniors shutout Omaha Northwest 8-0 in five innings.  Fremont scored 2 runs in the 1st, 4 in the 3rd and 2 more in the 5th.  3rd baseman Julian Cortes had the hot bat. He was 2-3 with an RBI and one run scored.  Cal Janke had a triple. Fremont was walked 7 times  and had 7 hits in the game.  Landon Mueller pitched all 5 innings and gave up 3 hits, 3 walks with 8 K’s.
In game Two, Fremont came out hot, scoring runs in the 1st, 1 in the second inning, and 4 more in the 4th, to defeat Springfield 11-1.  Carter Sintek was 3 for 3 at the plate, with a double and a triple,  3 runs scored and 2 runs batted in.  Brandon Phillips picked up the win going 4 and 2/3 innings, giving up 4 hits , 1 walk, and striking out 8.
Sunday’s Championship game against Blair was a close game til Fremont erupted for 5 runs in the bottom of the sixth, winning 7-3.   Cooper Weitzel was 2 for 3, with a double and a run scored.  Cal Janke was 1 for 2 , with 2 runs scored, 2 rbi’s, and 2 walks.  Dom Escovedo pitched 6 innings for First State Bank, giving up 7 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned, with 2 walks, and 3 K’s.
The Seniors will host Northstar Tuesday night at 7:15, at Schilke Field.  Grant Hansen will have the broadcast on Mix 105.5, online at thebestmix1055.com
