CRETE, Neb. – Midland University had a tall task on Sunday as they traveled to take on Doane University in Crete. The Tigers, having already clinched the regular-season title in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), were looking to set a new single-season conference win mark. They did just that, taking in both games, 11-1 and 12-5, for their 24th conference win of the year while improving to 35-10 and 24-4. The losses drop the Warriors to 24-19 overall and 11-15 in the GPAC.
GAME ONE: Doane 11, Midland 1
The Tigers utilized an eight-run 1st inning as they cruised the win in game one. The Warriors got their lone run of the game in the 3rd when Kyle Weber hit an RBI triple, scoring Trey Rodriguez who pinch ran for Tyler Struck who got aboard with a walk.
Midland had just four hits in the game. Connor Petersen led off the 4th with a single and then Peyton Garbers joined him with a one-out double to put two runners in scoring position. Doane worked out of the jam with an infield popup and a foul-out to end the inning.
The final hit came in the 6th with two men aboard. After Harold Urban was hit by a pitch and Petersen walked, Matt Ross singled left-field with nobody out. Once again, the Tigers escaped the inning with a strikeout followed by a 6-4-3 double play.
On the mound, Jay Lambert had his shortest outing of the year going 0.2 innings while allowing four earned runs. In relief, Tyler Seebaum when 2.1 innings, Trey Nichols pitched 2.0 innings, and Ben Brown went 1.0. Each of the relievers had a strikeout and allowed an earned run.

GAME TWO: Doane 12, Midland 5
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Warriors scored four runs in the 3rd to take a 4-2 lead but a big 5th inning by the Tigers propelled the home team to the sweep.
After getting set down in order as a team in the first two innings, Matt Ross led off the 3rd with a solo home run to left-field to kickstart the Midland offense. Maddux Miyasato made it back-to-back with a solo shot of his own, also over the left-field fence.
Chase Reynolds kept the inning going as he reached on an error with one out. Kyle Weber singled to put two on base and then Peyton Garbers loaded them after he was hit by a pitch. A single by Dakota Thornton plated Reynolds, leading to a pitching change for the Tigers. The reliever earned a strikeout before Bakari Gayle drove in Weber with a walk.
Doane scored a run in the bottom of the 3rd and then took over the lead with five runs in the 5th and three more in the 6th.
Following a scoreless 7th inning by both teams, Garbers hit the third home run of the game for the Warriors, leading off the 8th. Unfortunately, that would wind up being the final tally for Midland as they dropped the second game.
On the mound, Lucas Hamzeh went four complete innings with six strikeouts, three earned runs, and no decision. Keegan Adams was saddled with the loss, going 1.1 innings with eight earned and a pair of strikeouts. Benji Hurth (1.2) and Garbers (1.0) closed out the game for the Warriors.

Midland (24-19, 11-15 GPAC) has one more doubleheader on their schedule to make up with Mount Marty (34-13, 18-8 GPAC). The teams were slated to play on Saturday, but wind and rain forced a postponement in Fremont. With another storm forecasted for Monday, the doubleheader is now slated for 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3 in Fremont.
