Reynolds to serve as interim sheriff

With Dodge County Sheriff Steve Hespen set to retire on Friday, the board of supervisors on Wednesday selected a veteran law-enforcement official to fill out the remainder of his term.

Bob Reynolds, a chief deputy in the Dodge County Sheriff’s Department, was unanimously appointed by the board.

“I appreciate your vote of confidence and Sheriff (Dan) Weddle for giving me an opportunity to become a deputy in 1987,” Reynolds told the board following the vote.

Hespen promoted Reynolds to chief deputy in 2007.

Weddle, the former sheriff who is now a member of the supervisors, met with a committee last week to interview prospective candidates.

“We had very good interviews that were surprisingly well done,” he said. “We have followed the protocols and for the good of the county we recommend that we activate Robert Reynolds as the interim sheriff.”

Hespen announced his retirement on Nov. 30.
