Dance team schedules fundraiser for Florida trip

The Fremont High School Dance Team is looking to raise some funds and work with area youths during the “Dance the Night Away 2021” event scheduled for Nov. 19.

The Tigers will be joining the FHS boys and girls basketball teams during a trip in mid-December to Walt Disney World in Florida. Dance Coach Kristy Harman said team members asked officials during the summer if they could make the trek to the Sunshine State.

“The girls went and asked permission and they were told they could go if they raised the money,” Harman said. “We were trying to come up with creative ways to make some money to get some cash in the girls’ pockets to help them out with the trip.”

To help offset the costs, the team has scheduled the “Dance the Night Away” event that is scheduled for 6 to 10:30 p.m. It is open to girls in grades 1-4. The fee is $30.

Harman said the event is open to girls in the area.

“We have some people registered from Bergan and we have a couple of girls from Cedar Bluffs,” she said. “An Arlington family has called about it. We’re really hoping to get all of the area kids.”

Dancing is just part of the activities scheduled for Nov. 19.

“We’ll do a little bit of dress-up in a photo booth,” Harman said. “They’ll have a few crafts set up that they want to make. We’ll also have pizza and some snacks as well as some fun hands-on activities for the girls to help them learn a little bit about dance. Honestly, we just want them to get out, have some fun and see these girls as role models.”

The dance team will fly with the basketball teams on Dec. 15. Harman said her squad will dance at halftime of a pair of games — one boys and one girls.

“They are also running a dance clinic there inside Disney with some of their dancers,” she said.

The coach believes she has a solid team for 2021-22.

“These girls are really great,” she said. “They are super dedicated and they get along really well as a team. They are super supportive and nice to each other which isn’t always the case with high school girls. It has been kind of a breath of fresh air this year.”

Harman said fundraiser participants should wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes. They are also asked to bring a labeled water bottle and a blanket.

Registrations should be returned by Nov. 12. For more information, contact Harman at: kristy.harman@fpsmail.org.
