Chinander’s father dies as a result of car crash

The father of University of Nebraska football defensive coordinator Erik Chinander died as the result of a car crash Thursday afternoon.l 
According to the Iowa State Patrol, Gene Chinander, 69, was driving on a highway near Allison, Iowa, when he failed to stop at an intersection. His truck left the road and entered a parking lot, crashing into a parked semi-trailer.
Chinander was pronounced dead at the scene.
Erik Chinander is in his fourth year as Nebraska’s defensive coordinator. He also served as NU head coach Scott Frost’s DC at Central Florida. The Huskers are scheduled to play at Minnesota on Saturday. There is no word yet if Chinander will be with the team.
