Autopsy reveals Harbaugh died of heart disease

The final autopsy report on former Dodge County Deputy Craig Harbaugh was issued by the Physicians Laboratory Services, Inc. this week.
They determined the cause of death was “Atherosclerotic coronary heart disease.”
The investigation into his death revealed that Harbaugh had a prior history and diagnosis of heart problems and was on medications for heart-related issues at the time of his death.
Officials said that despite early public speculation that this was a suicide, there were no indications of intentional or accidental drug overdose from the toxicology reporting. Also, investigation at the death scene did not find any evidence that Harbaugh caused his own death.
The final death certificate was issued by the Dodge County Attorney’s Office acting as coroner showing Harbaugh died of natural causes as indicated in the autopsy findings.
Harbaugh was charged in 2019 with fraud in a scheme that cost his victims nearly $11 million.
Between October 2014 and October 2019, Harbaugh used his Fremont weapons business, Tactical Solutions Gear, to target potential investors. He would meet investors and bank officials and convince them to invest their life savings or lend him millions.
He was found dead in his apartment July 8 — one day before he was scheduled to be sentenced in federal court.
