Art was born December 27, 1934 in McGregor, Minnesota to David and Myrtle ‘Rhodman’ Carlson.  He graduated from Lyons High School in 1953.  After his schooling he worked as a lineman and stoker for the Burlington Northern Railroad in Lyons.  He married Beulah Brockmoller on April 7, 1957.  Art worked with his dad for a short time in Oakland at the Texaco Station before moving to Lyons where he worked as a mechanic for the John Deere dealership.  In 1962 the couple moved to a farm near Scribner and in 1971 they moved into town.  He then worked for Kassimeier Implement (John Deere) until he retired.
